Job Description

Our client, a major global organisation, has an excellent opportunity available for an experienced EUC Desktop Support Engineer on a 6m (extendable) contract based in Manchester. Start Mid July.

The Role:

  • Taking a lead role in investigation and resolution of IT incidents and problems.
  • Fulfillment of Business as usual related requests (e.g. provision and configuration of new end user device)
  • Provides end user focused virtual desktop support such as proactive monitoring, access to desktop environments and troubleshooting issues.
  • Provision of 1st and 2nd line support. (For Thin Client, Fat Client, and Mobile device support)
  • Maintenance of devices throughout their economic life including the recording of the initial asset.
  • Rebuilding and configuring the operating system.
  • Device Retirement including securely cleansing the device prior to retirement and managing the retirement process (e.g. returning to a lease provider, resale or scrappage adhering to environmental controls)
  • Managing cross charging for equipment to business areas.
  • Fulfill service requests for IT supplied goods and services. Support the 3rd Party Managed Service for standard print/scan2email/copy solution utilizing HP/Xerox Multi-Functional Devices (MFD) & Printers across the business.
  • Provision of support to Xerox and other regional printers. Including central management of FNC printer estate using Webjet admin.
  • Provide a dedicated support model for a new or changed service including a major update and roll-out.
  • Provide extended core hours cover.
  • Prioritization/expediting of incidents throughout the Early Life Support period.
  • Document and create knowledge based articles for the IT Service Desk and other teams.
  • Provide Support on an adhoc basis, usually funded by a project a holistic Early Life Support Service.

Essential Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Onsite support.
  • Knowledge and experience on windows XP, 7, 8.1, 10 & Mac Operating System
  • Adequate current knowledge in the subjects of the role
  • Excellent customer service manner
  • Ability to work consistently to defined processes and instructions
  • Ability to work on own un-supervised and deliver on time to budget
  • Ability to think methodically and logically and communicate well using spoken and written word
  • Proven success as a careful and responsible worker in similar technical areas
  • Hands-on experience on Citrix and VDE
  • Experience with vSphere, VMware virtual switching, vMotion, and HA (High Avalibility)
  • vRA(vRealize automation), vROPS and the vRealize suite
  • Virtualization Network Infrastructure Experience using VMware NSX
  • Windows Desktop Administration for Microsoft Windows 7 & 10
  • Experience with administration of load balance devices,(Failover and Switchover)
  • System Monitoring Experience
  • Backup and Restore Experience, using NetBackup and VMSnapshot Backup
  • Ability to work and troubleshoot MAC devices
  • General knowledge and understanding of IT concepts with proven experience of successfully managing and maintaining IT services
  • Has practical awareness of problem solving procedures used for business-critical IT incidents, and a good awareness of their implications for a retail business Takes responsibility, owns the issue and resolves it through identifying and working with the relevant individuals
  • Reflects constructively and remains positive when faced with setbacks and continues to work towards a solution.
  • Considers the impact of decisions and reviews decision as required
  • Takes advantage of every opportunity to communicate relevant information remaining mindful of the audience (e.g. translates complex/technical issues to meet the audience's competency level)

  • Excellent problem solving capabilities and able to work in methodical manner
  • Good technical understanding of client automation infrastructure environment
  • Good technical understanding of client automation deployment tools (eg SCCM) -Essential;
  • Good technical understanding of Mail client (Outlook and Lotus Notes) configuration and troubleshooting.
